Australia’s MinterEllison Looks to Westpac Bank for New Finance Partner

Australian corporate law firm MinterEllison has hired a finance lawyer from Westpac Institutional Bank to join its partnership.

Amela McPherson, who worked at the firm as a senior associate for six years last decade, joins the firm’s Sydney office as a member of the finance solutions team.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Amela back as a partner in our finance solutions team. With her deep experience across a spectrum of financing transactions and markets, she will play an important part in further growing and developing our team and our relationships with clients,” finance solutions group leader James Mok said in a statement.

McPherson has 15 years of experience in finance across top-tier law firms and within major financial institutions, including Ashurst and Australian corporate firm Arnold Bloch Leibler.

“One of my favorite things about deal work is the opportunity to collaborate with lots of stakeholders towards achieving a shared goal. It’s the give-and-take to reach common ground that drives me,” McPherson said in a statement.

Law firm leaders in Australia expect 2021’s strong mergers & acquisitions activity to continue in 2022 and underpin firm revenues.
