How to Beef Up Your Blog to be a Successful Marketer

If you want to raise your profile and achieve more success marketing yourself and your company, here is a five-step formula to help you increase your impact in increasing your visibility and ensure you get more value from the time you spend when it comes to marketing.

Make sure you cover all of the following five marketing tactics:

  1. Communication (in person and online – especially in today’s socially distant world)

  2. Conversation (your conferences and seminars)

  3. Writing (blog posts, customer alerts, articles in trade journals and industry publications)

  4. Trade association involvement (service on a board or committee or simply attend events regularly in your field to network and build relationships)

  5. Digital presence (social media, email newsletters, podcasts, videos, etc.)

But it is not enough for a business expert to carry out these marketing activities only.

They say if you build it they will come – well, that’s not really true unless you market what you’re doing.

Remember that how well you communicate what you do is as important as what you intend to communicate.

You can write the best content and speak at the most prestigious conferences but if you are not promoting what you are doing, you are not maximizing the full impact of these activities.

If your blog posts and customer alerts aren’t getting as many readers as you’d like compared to the time you spend writing them, and your webinars aren’t getting as many attendees as you think, social media can help with this (bonus points if you engage your employees in posting Word about them – you need to take advantage of their valuable networks).

Additionally, don’t underestimate the power of email marketing. I believe email is the most direct and effective way to reach customers and prospects – as long as your contact lists are clean, up-to-date, and segmented.

What do you think of these five marketing activities? Did they work for you?
