Marketing training to help Hannibal small businesses

HANNIBAL, Mo. (WGEM) – There’s an opportunity for Hannibal small businesses to learn how to use social media to boost their success.

Customer traffic is slower for many Hannibal businesses during winter, which is why the Hannibal Regional Economic Development Council wants business owners to sign up for their marketing training.

On Feb. 22, business owners can learn about using Facebook and Instagram to market their business to customers outside of the area.

Participants will learn how to create advertisements, use a posting schedule, and look at post analytics.

Entrepreneurship Specialist Maria Kuhns says having an online presence as a business owner can help during the winter season.

“It’s just not as common to see people coming in this time of year,” Kuhns said. “So by being online, or being on social media, it puts you in front of those people who might not have thought about coming to our area in January or February and makes them think ‘Oh I have a day, I can go spend some time in Hannibal, check out some of the shops.””

Kuhns said social media plays a big role in our world today, which is why business owners should utilize it.

“No matter what your profession is or where you work, the world now is social media,” Kuhns said. “Even if you’re not someone who uses social media frequently, it can help you in your professional life to know these things.”

This is the second part of a training program that took place in November, which gave a broader overview of using social media. Kuhns said you did not have to attend the training in November to attend the one in February.

The marketing training is free and will be in-person at 3817 McMasters Ave. in Hannibal.
